CONTROL TO CATASTROPHE: CAESAR is released!

It took a long time and certainly distracted me from BFE, but CtC:Caesar is available for sale at Wargame Vault.  Really happy with the way everything came together and I now have a small business called Decisive Wargame Design that has a website.

The good news for BFE2 is that I have uploaded the rules to Wargame Vault as a PDF ($5). It is selling really well which is amazing for a game that was first published in 1999 and revised in 2013.

So, what is planned? I am working hard to complete the follow-up to CtC: Caesar, CONTROL TO CATASTROPHE: MAXIMILIAN. This will cover the period from 1490-1690. This has proven to be very interesting and I am excited about the system developing.  While the core mechanics are the same, firepower has been enhanced and the special rules for pike-blocks and pike and shot units are really interesting.  I have also take a rather different approach to how pistol armed cavalry are handled than compared my experience of other games.

Concurrently I am working on the ACW rules (based on the BFE engine). This game has diverged a lot from BFE although the basic DNA is still evident.  This has been played and evolved for many years and when I get a chance to finish writing the book (which has been drafted but needs revision), it will come out quite quickly after CtC: Max. If this does well I am already thinking about a mid-century European wars version which a group in Rome is already working on.

BFE3 or the campaign specific books will finally get attention after that. Those who have a look at this blog or the BFE FB page will know I have been rather inconsistent in my messaging sometimes declaring that BFE3 will never happen, talking about very different campaign specific colonial rules and then imagining a BFE 3 again.  I'm just not sure. Until I really turn my attention back to BFE it will remain uncertain.  I do know that the ACW game has reoriented my design thinking and 'might' shape a BFE3. We will see.

So, retirement never looked so busy...
